GREGOR TOWNSEND says his Glasgow Warriors are ready for a homecoming to remember after completing their pre-season campaign.

The Scotstoun club followed up a narrow 24-23 defeat to Harlequins last week with a rousing 38-19 triumph over London Scottish on Saturday.

Mark Bennett and Peter Murchie claimed two tries apiece in an encouraging performance at the Richmond Athletic Ground, with Jerry Yanuyanutawa and Lee Jones also scoring for the visitors.

And with last year's champions Leinster first up for Warriors next Saturday in the opening weekend of the Guinness PRO12, Townsend reckons the two tests his side have gone through in the last few days will have them ready for the Irish cracks at the first hurdle.

He said: "The players have put in a lot of effort during pre-season and put a lot into Saturday's game. It was a real contest, especially in the second half and it was a different game to last week.

"It was a bit stop-start, partly because of accuracy and partly because there were a lot of penalties.

"Harlequins and London Scottish have tested us in different ways. The support has really grown over the last few seasons and having a big crowd gives the players a boost and it was great to see so many Glasgow supporters at Saturday's game.

"We're expecting a big crowd next week and I know the players will put in a big performance for them."
