THE confidence within Glasgow Warriors' squad has not diminished as a result of their recent back-to-back defeats to Toulouse, according to Pat MacArhur.

Losses against the French cracks in the European Rugby Champions Cup over the last two weeks has dented the Scotstoun club's ambitions on a continental scale.

The level of opposition is just as stern this weekend as Glasgow attempt to regain their composure and conviction against Guinness PRO12 leaders Munster.

But while some onlookers may suggest that the impact of the Euro double dunt will have had a detrimental effect on the belief within Gregor Townsend's camp, MacArthur says it is, in fact, quite the opposite.

The Warriors hooker said: "As a squad, we are always driven to perform every week, and that's possibly because we are a big group. You know you have someone nipping at your heels waiting to get on.

"We are disappointed that we didn't manage to beat Toulouse, but we can look ahead to a massive game against Munster, who are another top team in Europe and try and push on to victory.

"It excites us that Munster are such a huge team, that's why we are here week in, week out. It's all about playing in these massive games.

"Munster talk about going back to their old values, which means it will be a physical and confrontational game. There will be lots of driving balls and close-contact work. As a forward, it's exciting to be up against a team like that.

"We come in on a Monday, analyse where we can do better, and then you look forward to the next game. That's what we're doing with Munster."

A major bonus for Glasgow is that their return to domestic duty will take play on home soil.

Saturday's defeat by Toulouse was their first inflicted at Scotstoun this season. That fact is reflected in their league position, with a win this weekend enough to send them above the table-topping Irish side.

"It's great that this is a home game and it's ideal that our fans are turning up in large numbers," said MacArthur. "They are really cheering us forward.

"As a player, we felt like the support were making a lot of noise against Toulouse. I think they understand in these big matches that they will be tough, tight games."

He added: "We know that more pressure is put on us with every game, and I think we enjoy that and you must thrive on it. We need to make it a fortress at Scotstoun."

The Scotland international has been studiously working away at Scotstoun over recent months.

Despite not being called up for the Autumn Tests, the six-times capped 27-year-old has not let this faze him as he attempts to improve himself and his club team. Anything above that is simply a bonus.

MacArthur said: "I think I'm playing well and I'm happy with what I'm doing. I'm always working on new things and trying to improve as a player.

"In these big games I'm solely thinking about a Glasgow purpose at the moment. You have always got motivation to play at the highest level and that, of course, includes international rugby.

"To do that you have to perform in the big games for your club team and that is what I try and do. If I get the chance to do it at a higher level, I'll take that on."
