GREGOR TOWNSEND believes Glasgow are building vital momentum at exactly the right time in their push for the PRO12 play-offs.

A brilliant chase and touchdown by wing king Tommy Seymour saw Glasgow edge Ospreys in a tense encounter at Scotstoun on Friday by 11-9, as Toony's troops made it two wins on the bounce at Scotstoun.

The victory has taken Warriors to within one point of the fourth-placed Welshmen with two games in hand, the first of which will come with the visit of Treviso in four days' time.

Townsend said: "The momentum is there, we know we can play much better.

"But we are the only one of the top five sides playing this weekend and if we can beat Treviso that will take us above Ospreys and back into the top four, still with a game in hand.

"It will be a challenge as Treviso are a much better team when they've got their Italian internationals back.

"But at this stage in the season it is all about getting the results and there is no doubt that the victory over the Ospreys was a massive one for us.

"Four of our last six games are at home and we have given ourselves a great platform."

But there was an injury butcher's bill to pay after the gutsy grapple with the Welshmen.

Toony revealed: "Tommy Seymour has strained a shoulder in stretching for the try and he did well to finish the game. Alex Dunbar has now played back-to-back games after the Six Nations and he will be rested after another big game for us, while Ryan Grant is probably not going to make it back for Treviso from his hamstring strain.

"I am hopeful Al Kellock and Tim Swinson will have a shout at making it back into the squad."
