GREGOR Townsend believes his Glasgow Warriors team are the complete package after their barnstorming Euro opener.

Faced with the formidable task of going up against Aviva Premiership cracks Bath, Townsend's troops simply wiped the floor with the men from The Rec in a stunning 37-10 bonus point triumph in their first ever European Rugby Champions Cup tie.

An early Jonathan Joseph try for the visitors was not enough to knock the rampant Scots off their stride as Mark Bennett (2), Sean Maitland, Tommy Seymour and Niko Matawalu all went over to send a vociferous sell-out Scotstoun crowd wild in the stands.

It was Glasgow's sixth win in seven games across all competitions so far this season, and, according to Townsend, by far their most impressive.

Despite the excellent run of results, the head coach has called for more from his players as he craved a full 80-minute performance. He got it, and then some, on Saturday.

"We are delighted with the performance from the team," said Townsend. "The intent we played at and our defence after the 11th minute where we didn't concede a try made it a superb performance.

"This season it was the most complete performance I've seen from the team. It was a really good 80-minute performance.

"Seymour was outstanding for those first 40 minutes. Henry Pyrgos was awarded Man of the Match and I thought he had a fantastic game.

"We then fielded Niko who brought that energy when the game maybe broke up a little. I thought the whole squad effort was excellent. It is the best team performance we have had this season."

He was particularly impressed with the way his charges weathered a second-half storm from Bath before coming back to increase their advantage and close out the win as the clock ticked down.

"There was a period in the middle of the second half where we kicked away possession, maybe subconsciously thinking that we could defend the lead, but after that we attacked again, which was great to see. It was a really good 80-minute performance."

He warned, however, that Glasgow would not rest on their laurels, and that there were still areas of their performance that had to be tightened up going forward.

"There were more opportunities that we could have taken, so we will look at those before next weekend," he added.

Man of the match Pyrgos added: "We knew it was going to be a step up from the PRO12.

"We've done well in the league over the last few years but not in Europe. Hopefully this is the start of something good in Europe this season."

Warriors were particularly dominant in the first half, with them taking a 23-10 lead into the break.

And Bath head coach Mike Ford confessed his team has a lot to earn if they are to progress in the new-look European tournament.

He said: "It was disappointing. It is a lesson learned in a tough European tie.

"We are disappointed with the tries that we let in and we let the game get away from us. We didn't finish off the breaks that we had and then they scored a couple of quick tries.

"When that happens, all of a sudden you are on the wrong end of a poor scoreline. We will learn from it, though. We are a young side."

Elsewhere in Pool D, Toulouse beat Montpellier 30-23 in yesterday's clash, with Warriors sitting top after the first round of fixtures.
