Mair suffered a hamstring strain in the 3-2 defeat at Dundee United last weekend and has not trained since.

“There is a lot of bruising but he is receiving intensive treatment,” said manager Gus MacPherson.

“We’ll need to wait and see later how he is later in the week but we certainly won’t take any chances with a hamstring, so he is doubtful.”

Striker Craig Dargo has a similar injury but stands a better chance of playing against Eddie May’s side.

“He felt something go and didn’t want to take any chances during training last Thursday,” said MacPherson.

“However, the physio has been happy with the progress he has made in a short space of time and we’ll give him up until the last possible minute.”

Meanwhile, St Mirren’s hopes of being under new ownership by the end of the year have been dashed after two interested parties walked away just as a deal looked imminent.

It is understood that both consortia were satisfied with the finances and running of the Paisley club but elected not to take their interest further due to the stagnant state of the Scottish football market.

It is believed one of the interested parties may yet return with a fresh offer, but it seems unlikely now that any deal will be concluded in time for the re-opening of the transfer window.

While the identities of those leading the two groups remain private, it has been confirmed that Kevin Keegan, the subject of some fevered speculation, is not behind either bid.

St Mirren have been up for sale since September.
