DAVID ANDERSON is confident Queen's Park can hit the same heights as last season despite seeing a host of first-team stars head for the exit.

After once again clinching a top-four berth in the Third Division last term, Gardner Speirs' side suffered more play-off heartache as they missed out on promotion.

The Spiders boss then saw the likes of keeper Neil Parry leave to join SPFL League Two rivals Albion Rovers and young stars Andrew Robertson and Aidan Connolly (Dundee United) and Lawrence Shankland (Aberdeen) join Premiership sides.

Anderson was a standout for QP last term – winning the Irn-Bru Third Division Player of the Season award – and the midfielder is eager to replicate his form.

He said: "It is a bit strange not seeing the same faces in the dressing room.

"We had a lot of youngsters last season that did well and there has been a bigger turnaround in players that we have had in the last few years. It will be hard to match last year but we can do it.

"I never heard anything from anyone regarding a move. I signed fairly early with Queen's and I didn't hear from anyone else.

"It wasn't something I was thinking about. I would have looked at it if the offers had come in, but I am happy at Queen's, I love being at the club. I wasn't looking to move on – plus, I'm 30 now!

"Hopefully I can repeat the form I showed last year. I have done well since I joined the club so I hope to do the same again. If I can get near that I will be happy.

"I got a few awards last year, which was nice. I have got them lined up in the kitchen. My wife is moving them out the road! Hopefully I'll be able to add a few more."

It is not just new players that Queen's have brought on board, with the Hampden side penning a deal with kit manufacturer Under Armour. Premiership giants Spurs are the only other UK club to use the American brand.

And Anderson hopes the new shirts will bring more luck this weekend as the Spiders look to bounce back from their Ramsdens Cup defeat against Ayr when they face Raith in the League Cup.

Anderson said: "The kit is fantastic. I wore the away one for the first time yesterday and it's really good. The home kit didn't bring us much luck on Saturday unfortunately. It was a poor game for us.

"We're better than that and have done better in pre-season so hopefully on Saturday we can prove we are better.

"I have never played Raith before so I am looking forward to Saturday.

"I know they are going to be a good team. They are a big club and they will be pushing for promotion. It will be tough but I think we can go and get a result."
