DUMBARTON hope to name their new manager today, exactly one month after they dispensed with the services of Alan Adamson after a nine- game winless run.

The first team has been run by Adamson's assistant Jack Ross for the past four matches on an interim basis and he has overseen wins over East Stirlingshire in the William Hill Scottish Cup and Cowdenbeath in the Irn-Bru First Division with defeats from Airdrie and Morton leaving them rooted to the foot of the table.

Ross, along with a host of other candidates including former Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee United midfielder Scott Severin, have been interviewed for the job.

Sons Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie said: "We had hoped to make the appointment last week, however, things have been held up.

"We expect to annouce the new manager of Dumbarton today."

Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert has been handed a one-match touchline ban and fined £8,000 following "language and/or behaviour amounting to improper conduct" which was said to have taken place in his side's game at Manchester City last week.

Paris St Germain have ruled out a move for David Beckham after the former England midfielder announced he was leaving LA Galaxy after next month's Major League Soccer Cup final.

"Beckham? We have not made an offer," said coach Carlo Ancelotti. "We're done [recruiting]. Good luck to him for the future."

Sports director Leonardo echoed Ancelotti's view, saying: "There is nothing happening there."
