Jim set to muscle in on Clyde loan bids

CLYDE gaffer Jim Duffy has made eradicating his side's inconsistency his New Year resolution.

The Broadwood boss is desperately seeking an assured central defensive presence to bolster his ranks and is hoping to make a loan move to add muscle to his backline.

But ahead of tomorrow's visit from Stirling Albion, Duffy is determined to make sure the back-marking Binos don't bite into the five- point lead his side have over them.

Duffy said: "Inconsistency has been the story of our season and it has cost us dear.

"It was the same against Annan last time out when we were very poor for the first half and superb after the interval.

"But our problem is we are conceding goals because we lack a dominant physical presence at the heart of our defence.

"What we need is the type of assured presence who will deal with opposition set pieces and clear his lines and take the right option.

"Unfortunately, these days centre-backs do not grow on trees as they once did. Even to land one on a loan deal is proving a problem but we will keep looking."

Duffy added: "As far as the Stirling game goes, although we have a five- point lead over them and although we very much want to try and catch Annan, who are four points above us in seventh place, we also want to mind the gap over Stirling.

"That made losing to Annan last weekend very frustrating, but if we can get the better of Stirling it will serve two purposes.

"Firstly, in keeping them below us and hopefully helping us close back on Annan.

"The bottom line is it is our home game and it is up to us to make the most of that."
