MARC FITZPATRICK enjoyed his Morton debut last night as the Cappielow club drew 0-0 with Rotherham United.

The ex-Motherwell defender, who most recently was plying his trade with Queen of the South, penned a one-year deal with the SPFL Championship club yesterday.

The goalless stalemate also saw Michael Tidser take his final bow in front of the Morton support as he pulled on the red of Rotherham after signing a deal in a £50,000 move.

He was brought on as a substitute last night for Mitch Rose, with the 23-year-old receiving a standing ovation from modest crowd huddled within the main stand at full time.

Meanwhile, Dumbarton defender Andy Graham is in a race against the clock to be fit for Saturday's friendly visit of Partick Thistle to the Bet Butler Stadium.

The powerful stopper is receiving treatment for a hamstring strain he suffered against Civil Service Strollers when the former Hamilton Accies defender had to limp off after 70 minutes.

The Sons have former New Douglas Park midfielder Jordan Kirkpatrick on trial and he could also feature against Thistle while another ex-Accie, Mark Gilhaney, is expected to be added to the squad after returning from holiday.

Albion Rovers manager James Ward has admitted his first competitive game in charge of the Cliftonhill club against Rangers in the first round of the Ramsdens Challenge Cup, on Sunday, July 28, at the Energy Assets Arena, Livingston, will be a baptism of fire.

He said: "I could have picked an easier game for my first competitive game in charge.

"But it's a great start to the season for us and for me on a personal front this will be the first time I'll have been involved in a game against one of the Old Firm at any level.

"It's special as you want to do these things and challenge yourself."
