TODD LUMSDEN hopes the arrival of Marvin Andrews will help breathe fresh life into Albion Rovers' survival bid.

The Coatbridge club are currently bottom of the Irn-Bru Second Division, but this week agreed a deal with former Rangers idol Andrews that will see the 37-year-old remain with the Rovers until the end of the campaign.

The defender has not been able to help Albion pick up any points in his two appearances so far as they have fallen to East Fife and Queen of the South, but Cliftonhill boss Lumsden is confident the Trinidad and Tobago international can inspire his side in the coming months.

He said: "Marv has signed with us until the end of the season, which is great. We have offered him a chance to come and play professional football again, which he jumped at.

"He didn't really take much convincing. He had a think about it and he just wanted to come and play, which is great.

"He can give us a lot off the pitch as well as on the pitch. He is great around the dressing-room and with the boys, he talks to them and he has a wealth of experience to pass on to them.

"He has played at international level and at the top level in Scotland and in Europe so his experience is undoubted.

"With the way Marvin leads his life, he is an athlete and he looks after himself. He still looks the same as he did years ago when I played alongside him at Raith.

"People might have had concerns over his age, but he has shown in the two games he has played for us that he is still fit enough for professional football.

"In the East Fife game, we dominated play, but he was a lot busier on Saturday against Queen of the South because they have got a fitter team and more willing runners up front, but I thought he coped with it fine.

"I am sure he will do well for us between now and end of the season."
