Plenty reserves for Ton charge

MORTON boss Allan Moore has praised the re-introduction of reserve team football this season as it has resulted in fierce competition for places for the Cappielow side.

The Greenock side have won their six matches so far in the 14-team SFL Reserve League, and Moore said: "It has been great that we have been able to keep everyone in our squad playing games rather than being idle.

"The players are giving their all in the reserve matches hoping that will lead to a place in the first team, and the top-team players know that if they slow down someone is match-ready to come in to replace them.

"Kyle Wilkie was one of our substitutes against Livingston last Saturday and that was based on his performances for the reserves – and there are more players who will feature as a result."
