Rovers and QP hold on

ALBION ROVERS handed themselves an Irn-Bru Second Division relegation lifeline with a dramatic 4-3 win over Stenhousemuir at Cliftonhill last night.

Despite Warriors striker John Gemmell grabbing a brace and Jamie Reid netting late on for the visitors, Todd Lumsden's side held on for a crucial win that moves them to within nine points of second-bottom Stranraer.

Chris Dallas and David Crawford gave Rovers the ideal start as they scored inside the opening 20 minutes before Alan Reid and Scott Sally found the net after the break to ensure Stenny's late comeback was in vain.

In the Third Division, Gardner Speirs' Queen's Park strengthened their grip on a play-off berth with a 5-3 victory at promotion hopefuls Elgin City.

Sean Burns scored twice and Lawrence Shankland, Blair Spittal and Michael Keenan also struck to clinch the points for the Hampden outfit before their hosts rallied with three goals in the final 20 minutes of the match at Borough Briggs.
