Speirs: Rangers won't be caught

QUEEN'S PARK gaffer Gardner Speirs today admitted that any hope the rest of the Third Division had of catching Rangers has all but gone.

The Spiders battled to a goalless stalemate at home to Peterhead on Saturday to take their unbeaten league run to three matches – a period of good form that was launched on the back of Queen's last-minute loss to the Gers in December.

Now Ally McCoist's men have opened up a 19-point gap on Speirs second placed side that the amateurs gaffer admitted will be all but impossible to close down, despite his side's two games in hand.

Speirs said: "You can never say never, but Rangers have built up a real momentum and it will be very hard.

"But we must just focus on what we can do now and we have shown real consistency over the last few games.

"Peterhead are a good side and although we had the chances to win this one, we will take the clean sheet and the point."

Meanwhile, Clyde boss Jim Duffy was delighted with his side's 2-1 victory over Stirling Albion.

The win was the Bully Wee's first this year and saw the club close to within seven points of the Third Divsion play-off positions.

Duffy said: "I made six changes and they worked for us.

"I thought the boys gave me everything I asked of them and the quality of the goals was very pleasing.

"Now we must use this win as a platform to kick-on and climb the table."
