GARDNER SPEIRS admits he will have to play the waiting game to bolster his Queen's Park ranks ahead of the new SPFL Division Two campaign.

The Spiders boss has a big rebuilding job on his hands this summer after seeing several top stars left Hampden, including youngsters Andy Robertson, Aidan Connolly and Lawrence Shankland to the Premiership.

Portuguese striker Joao Pereira Victoria has been recruited this week and Speirs is keen for more deals as the countdown continues to the big kick-off.

He said: "The search for players is coming along fine. I don't think it is any secret that most of the teams in the Second and Third Division are chasing mostly the same players.

"We have made our interest known early to the players. Some of them we have in and we are able to have a look at them just now.

"Some we have to wait until they decide just what direction they want to go because they are either training at other clubs or they are holding out for deals that they think they warrant.

"Normally it is just before the season starts that we sign the majority of our players.

"We have just, in the last couple of days, signed Joao Victoria, who played with Giffnock North last year.

"He played a couple of Reserve games for us at the tail end of last season and we have had him in for a couple of weeks now.

"We are pleased that he has decided to join us and we are looking forward to some goals."
