The Paisley side returned for the annual slog last Thursday, when their first-team stars faced a battery of fitness tests and assessments.
But, with a seven-day summer training camp in Spain already nailed down, Caldwell has no doubt Danny Lennon and his players will have the perfect launchpad into the new campaign – despite the continued financial fallout of the Rangers fiasco.
He said: "Thanks to Jet2.com and a Spanish travel agency, we have a seven-day training camp in Spain.
"That will be at a hotel complex with top-quality pitches and training facilities. Given the vagaries of the Scottish summer, it will be a huge positive for the players to train for seven days with the sun on their back.
"I am confident this will help form a key part in our best-ever pre-season. Then the squad will return for our first game with Morton at Cappielow on July 21."
The Buddies will travel south for friendly games with Carlisle and Accrington on the weekend beginning Friday, July 27, and are hoping to add a home friendly before the campaign begins on Saturday, August 4, with the visit of Inverness to New St Mirren Park.
Caldwell confirmed: "We are pleased with our pre-season build-up. There could be a home game added, which I think would benefit both the new boys in terms of experiencing their home ground and the support in allowing them to look at the new signings.
"But the weekend away, with Carlisle on the Friday and Accrington on the Sunday will be great preparation for the start of the SPL. It goes without saying we are delighted to start the season with a home game."
Caldwell also has no doubt the new two-year deal signed by Lennon, keeping him in Paisley until summer 2014, has been another huge positive.
He said: "The fact Danny signed is fantastic. We want continuity and Danny has given us that. He is playing a brand of football the fans love and respect, and clearly, with two cup quarter-finals and an eighth-place finish in the SPL, we are progressing.
"Everything is very positive for us to take another step forward on the field of play and that is the target."
Caldwell's determination to build even stronger ties with Saints' Renfrewshire roots does his club tremendous credit.
The Saints general manager said: "Looking at the season ticket sales, we have gone through the 2,000 mark and are up over 300 already on last term. I think what I take most pleasure from is the fact we have won the SPL Family Champions award again.
"We have made huge inroads into the local community by making up to 500 tickets per home game available for all the Renfrewshire schools."
