MORTON have announced the signing of Frank McKeown on a one-year deal. The firefighter came to national prominence two years ago when he turned out to play for former club Stranraer just hours after attending the disaster at the Clutha pub in Glasgow.
McKeown was among the first on the scene after a police helicopter fell out the sky and landed on the roof of the bar, killing 10 people. Having completed his shift he then captained Stranraer in a Scottish Cup tie against Clyde. Now he is set to leave the fire service after signing for the SPFL Championship newcomers.
A statement from Morton read: “We're delighted to announce the signing of central defender of Frank McKeown formerly of Stranraer on a one year deal. The 28 year old central defender signed for Stranraer from Arthurlie in 2011 and was made captain of the club in 2013. In total he made 175 appearances for the Stair Park club in all competitions, including 45 matches and 6 goals last term.”
