BARRY FERGUSON insists cash is not king at Clyde as he continues his preparations for the new SPFL League Two campaign.

The Bully Wee have returned to training ahead of next month's kick-off after a summer that has allowed Ferguson to reshape his Broadwood squad.

Ferguson has added nine players to his first-team pool in recent weeks, with the likes of Scott Linton, Chris Mitchell and Archie Campbell all making the move to Cumbernauld.

Clyde finished sixth in Ferguson’s first campaign as boss last time out when fell just half a dozen points short of clinching a fourth-tier play-off place.

The Bully Wee have lined up a handful of friendly fixtures already and will play their first warm-up game of the summer against East Kilbride next month.

Ferguson has just a month to get his players up to speed ahead of the Petrofac Training Cup first round tie on July 25, and the boss is pleased with his summer signing spree.

He said: "I've heard some crazy things about the club over the last few weeks and it's simply not true. There's been a small increase to the budget for the new season, but we're still in the middle of the pack compared to the other League Two clubs and what they are spending.

"I've had to work really hard to get the guys to come to Clyde and it's also to their credit that they wanted to come and buy into what we're doing.

“None of the deals happened quickly and most of them took many months and many meetings with the players before they were finalised.

"We maybe don't have a lot of money, but there are other things that we can offer players in terms of the environment they'll be playing in, how they'll train and a hunger to achieve something as a group."
