DUMBARTON new recruit Darren Miller has described his move to the Rock as ‘massive’ as he plots a step up in his career.

The midfielder was snapped up by new boss Stevie Aitken earlier in the month following a successful spell at Queen’s Park on top of a term at Albion Rovers and time in the Junior ranks.

The 22-year-old racked up 34 appearances for the Spiders last time out, netting eight goals.

And, after making a jump up two divisions to join the Sons, Miller is still relishing the prospect of mixing it with a host of full-time clubs in the Ladbrokes Championship.

He said: “This is a big move for me, in fact it is a massive move for me. I will be playing against some of the best players in Scotland, so it really is a bit of a dream.

“The Championship is the most competitive league there is, and I have the opportunity to play at terrific venues like Ibrox, Easter Road and St Mirren Park. As soon as I get the chance to establish myself, I aim to take it with both hands.”

He added: “I have not come here to make up the squad numbers as I am aiming to be playing.

“I enjoyed myself at Queen's Park with a good bunch of boys and a good management team. It all fell apart in the last few weeks, but the manager here has told me that the slate is wiped clean.”

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Spiders striker Kevin Fotheringham will not be playing at Hampden next season.

After joining from amateur side Bannockburn last season, an early injury picked up against Rangers kept him out the team for three months, a setback he never really recovered from.

Boss Gus MacPherson said: “Kevin is not among the boys who have returned for training and we believe he is returning to his former club in Bannockburn.

“We wish him well in the rest of his time in football.”
