GUS MacPHERSON reckons geography has worked against him signing up any of the Edinburgh City squad his Queen's Park side face tomorrow in the Petrofac Cup.

The Spiders travel to Meadowbank with the Hampden chief disappointed that he cannot bring in players from the east of the country, especially title winners.

MacPherson said: "This will be a tough tie for us as Edinburgh City have a very good squad and they are also used to winning games.

"They have the players that fit the profile I like when I am recruiting and they are winners as lifting the Lowland League title showed.

"In my 18 months in charge at Queen's, we have given a lot of players the opportunity to show what they can do at a senior level.

"When I looked through the Edinburgh City squad there are players there that I would have been interested in giving a similar opportunity to.

"For example, Joe Mbu is a player I would have liked to have at Hampden as he would have done a great job in bringing on other players.

"I would have liked to bring him in, but you cannot ask someone to commit to training and playing for us on expenses from Edinburgh."
