DARREN YOUNG could hand debuts to Andy Barrowman and Mark Ferry when Albion Rovers kick off their campaign against Ayr United this afternoon.

The pair became the latest summer recruits at Cliftonhill this week, and boss Young is delighted to have the striker and midfielder on board.

He said: “Andy and Mark are great signings with bags of experience and they will be key players for us this season. Both go straight into the squad for today’s Petrofac Training Cup opener against Ayr United.”

Rovers head into the new campaign on the back of an unbeaten summer schedule in recent weeks.

A 4-1 win over BSC Glasgow was their final warm-up fixture last weekend and Young is pleased with their preparations.

He said: “The focus has been on improving our fitness and sharpness and I think we’re getting there.

“It’s pleasing to be creating chances and getting into good positions. It’s then about adding that finishing touch.

“It has been a long time since our last competitive game. We’re excited and looking forward to it.”
