DUMBARTON boss Stevie Aitken admits that last weekend's Petrofac Training Cup 3-2 win over Morton has left his players buzzing.

The Sons withstood a second-half barrage from the Greenock side after carving out a 3-0 lead.

And the win set them up for a next-round face-off with Queen's Park at Hampden.

“In any cup competition you want to get games at home, but if you're not getting that, you look at venues where you want to play.

“Hampden is a ground which we don't get to play on that often and I'm sure our players will be looking forward to it.

“I am sure it will be the case that the pressure is on us as we are the team from the higher division.

“But Queen's Park have done very well under Gus MacPherson, bringing young players through.

“There are players playing international football who were there in the past, so we will have to be on our guard when the game takes place.”

Aitken knows the win has given his players a shot in the arm ahead of this Saturday's League Cup first-round clash with East Fife.

And he asked his players to ensure that winning becomes a habit.

He said: "It's important early in the season to build up a bit of momentum.

"I want to get into a winning pattern because that obviously gives players confidence. And I think it's important to build on that early in the season and that's what we will be aiming to do continuing this weekend against East Fife."
