ALAN STUBBS lamented Hibernian’s poor finishing as they went down 1-0 to title rivals Rangers at Ibrox.

A stunning free-kick from James Tavernier clinched all three points for Mark Warburton’s side as they doubled their advantage over Hibs in the Championship standings.

The visitors could, and should, have taken the lead as Jason Cummings and Liam Henderson squandered glorious scoring chances and Rangers struggled to hit their stride.

Hibs have now suffered two defeats to the Light Blues already this term and Stubbs knows his side cost themselves a shot at glory as they failed to fire in the final third.

He said: “I thought we did very well for long periods in the game.

“How we haven’t scored is frustrating – especially when you’ve created the number of clear chances that we have.

“When you look at it, that is the difference between winning and losing games.

“I thought our game plan was working really well. We frustrated them.

“Yes, they were going to have the ball, but we had worked on that. Goals change games and we had good chances when the game was at 0-0 and you have to take them when you play against one of your biggest rivals.

“We have worked them and we had one or two presented to us, but you have to be clinical.”

Midfielder Henderson ballooned an effort high over the bar just seconds before Tavernier found the top corner with a superb dead ball strike.

But boss Stubbs was pleased with the overall performance of the on loan Celtic star as he impressed in the middle of the park.

He said: “I thought he was very good. I thought his awareness to get on the ball was good.

“He is very clever. He had a great chance and more often than not he’ll take it.

“But I thought we caused Rangers some problems today.”
