Peter MacDonald swears that Morton will soon be racking up wins, as long as they start to take their chances.

Morton’s captain was himself guilty of squandering some glorious opportunities as the Greenock side were held by St Mirren on Friday night.

The experienced MacDonald knows that they will have to be more clinical, starting tonight against Queen of the South in the League Cup.

“At least we’re creating chances, so it could be worse,” MacDonald said.

“Hopefully we’ll go into Tuesday night and we’ll start taking those chances we are creating.

“We’ve got nothing to fear and we showed it against St Mirren, we just need to start taking our chances.

“We feel we should have won against St Mirren. On another day I could have had a few. I think with the last chance I’ve got to score.

“I maybe tried to play it too safe, because the ball was just cut back a wee bit behind me.

“It’s a bread and butter chance for me, and although I’ve hit it low and on target, Jamie Langfield’s managed to save it.

“I think what we wanted to do to start with was compete, and we’ve certainly shown we can compete in the first three games.”

MacDonald has been impressed by his striking partner Denny Johnstone since he arrived at Cappielow on-loan from Birmingham City.

With the proper guidance, such as that dished out by an experienced captain, he sees no reason why he can’t go on to star at the top of the game.

“I like Denny, I like the way he battles,” he said.

“He runs the channels, he does everything.

“I’d never heard of him before he came but I think he’s a good catch for the club.

“You could see against St Mirren that he’s a decent big player.

“Who knows what can happen, but he definitely has the potential.”
