Darren McGregor has described his move to Easter Road as a "dream come true" after swapping Rangers for Ladbrokes Championship rivals Hibernian.

The 30-year-old was confirmed as a Hibs player less than 24 hours after his exit from Ibrox was confirmed.

McGregor and the Glasgow club terminated his contract by mutual consent after he failed to feature under Mark Warburton.

The former Cowdenbeath and St Mirren defender was Rangers' player of the year in his only full season at Ibrox but the arrivals of James Tavernier, Dominic Ball, Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan saw him slip out of the first-team picture.

But that has allowed the Edinburgh-born centre-back to join his boyhood heroes on a two-year deal.

McGregor, who played much of last season at right-back, told www.hibernianfc.co.uk: "I'm absolutely delighted to sign for Hibs - it's a dream come true for me to play for the club.

"I've supported Hibs my whole life, so to now get the opportunity to sign for the club is brilliant.

"I enjoyed my time with Rangers and now that has ended I'm really excited about starting the next chapter of my career at my club and helping Hibs to challenge for promotion."

Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs could now involve McGregor in their League Cup second-round clash with Stranraer on Wednesday night.

Stubbs said: "We're delighted to be able to welcome Darren into the group - his arrival provides real competition for places.

"He has always played well against us and he is strong, experienced player and a good professional.

"We're always looking to strengthen the squad and the arrival of Darren will do exactly that.

"The fact that he is also a lifelong Hibs supporter is great and this move provides him with the opportunity to fulfil the dream of playing for his team."
