Darren Young has spoken of his pride in the Albion Rovers players and staff as he was awarded the League One manager of the month award for October.

Rovers are flying high in the table following their promotion last season, and Young says that it has been a truly collective effort.

“I’m delighted to get the award,” he said.

“It’s great for the club. We’ve had 1 defeat in the last 6 with 4 wins, 4 clean sheets and a draw away to our local rivals in that period, so we’re delighted.

“It’s a great achievement for the club and great recognition of the hard work of all the players and the backroom staff. Everybody has mucked in and played their part in the great start we’ve had to the season.

“We’re a small club and we make the most of what we’ve got. It’s all working well at the moment, and it’s so far, so good.

“When we won it last year we ended up getting beat in the next game though, so hopefully that doesn’t happen this time!”

The next game up for Young and his side could hardly be more difficult, with a visit to league leaders Ayr united on Saturday.

“It will be a hard game,” he admitted, “But we’ve got to look at the positive that we’re the only team to beat them in the league this season.

“I don’t know if we got them on a bad day or they got us on a good day, but we’ll go into the game full of confidence after the way we played against them at home.

“In the Petrofac Cup game at the start of the season we had a couple of decisions go against us, although we probably didn’t do enough to win the game.

“The referee gave a penalty that was never a penalty in a million years, and that changed the face of the game.

“We shot ourselves in the foot a bit as well which didn’t help, but we’ve come on a lot since then and we’ve cut out the silly errors that were costing us back then.

“I’m delighted and proud of the players so far.”
