Barry Ferguson urged his Clyde players to use Saturday’s comeback win over Elgin City as the springboard to build consistency for a promotion push.

The 4-2 10-man win at Broadwood saw the Bully Wee leapfrog the Highlanders into joint second place in Ladbrokes League Two.

And it meant back-to-back wins for Ferguson’s players as they bid to catch leaders Annan Athletic.

Craig Gunn scored two first-half penalties for the visitors after Jon-Paul McGovern's close-range opener.

Scott Ferguson levelled and David Gormley got on the end of John Gibson's free-kick after the break as the hosts went ahead for the second time.

Clyde lost Chris Mitchell to a second yellow card but Scott Linton extended their lead with six minutes remaining.

Brodwood gaffer Ferguson, who threatened to quit just a few weeks ago, said: “The whole team was excellent. We played a lot of good stuff.

“We definitely have the ability in the squad but we just haven’t shown the consistency.

“But we’ve shown we can carry on the level of performance from last week against a good team that I think is one of he best teams in the league.

“In the second half I thought we were different class."

Ferguson also hailed his team's character after fighting back from losing the opener and going down late on to ten men.

He added: “You have to fight for everything these days and they’ve shown that. If you are prepared to accept second best then it’s pointless turning up.

“Our energy levels today were frightening. I want to play a pressing game and sometimes you can’t do it for 90 minutes.

“But the boys put in some amount of effort so I’m happy.”

Ferguson singled out goalscorer David Gormley for special praise but highlighted the work he does off the ball as key to his side’s form.

“Hiss hold-up play is excellent. Any centre-back that plays against him knows they’ve been in a game. That’s why we brought him here.”
