SEAN KELLY blasted St Mirren’s dire showing against Livingston as ‘unacceptable’ following another Paisley nightmare for the Buddies.

The Saints succumbed to a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of managerless Livi, a result which sees Alex Rae’s side sink to second bottom of the Ladbrokes Champions, albeit on goal difference.

Home comforts have been hard to come by for St Mirren. In the last two years, they have won just SEVEN times on their own patch on league duty, just THREE times in 2015 and on ZERO occasions this season.

It has left their long-suffering support pulling their hair out, longing for a Paisley three points that was last delivered back in May.

“Obviously with the position we are in in the league isn’t great so people aren’t going to be buzzing or filled with confidence, but we still should have done better than what we did against Livingston,” conceded Saints full-back Kelly.

“I don’t think it’s got to do with the circumstances of playing at home in the stadium or anything like that. You could say it was a lack of confidence but I suppose it’s the easy way out to say that. As players we just need to play better.

“Obviously the stats will tell you it’s been pretty similar at home [to last season], but I wouldn’t put it down to people talking about the home, the stadium, the fans, and nervousness.

“I can’t really put my finger on it, but even away from home we’ve not been good enough this season either. There have been a couple of games we’ve been okay but as players we need to do better.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s defeat, when asked if it was a nightmare showing, Kelly added: “That’s putting it lightly to be fair. It just wasn’t happening for us.

“Individually and as a team we have to put our hands up and say it was pretty awful. It’s far from good enough if we want to push up the league. For everybody, including myself, it’s quite unacceptable.

“The first 15 or 20 minutes of the game we were in it and doing alright. Then the two goals we conceded were terrible, they are just so soft. It doesn’t give us a platform to build in the game.

“When we got a goal back you think we have a bit of momentum in the second half, but then the third and the fourth goes in and it just kills it.

“Ultimately it is going to be us, we have known that since the start of the season.

“We still believe the players we have are good enough to get us out of this and push us up the table, but time is running out and is going down game by game.

“We can’t keep being beaten at home like that, to lose four at home in this league is unacceptable.”
