ST MIRREN midfielder Scott Agnew believes his team are in a false position as he eyes a loftier spot in the Championship table.

The Buddies currently occupy seventh place in Scotland’s second tier, seven points above bottom-placed Alloa and nine off Raith Rovers in fourth.

Bouncing straight back to the Ladbrokes Premiership was Saints’ goal when they kicked off the season, only for a stuttering start to hamper their progress.

Now with two wins from their last three matches, as well as games in hand over some of their rivals, Agnew is keen to correct matters as today’s trip to Hibs looms large.

“A positive result at Hibs could turn everything around,” he said. “We are away from home and the last away game we had, we won away to Morton.

“We did really well so the boys are looking forward to it, it is a big game for us.

“I think we have got good players. I feel as if we are in a false position and I think we should be doing better than what we are with the players we have got at the club.

“To be honest we just look at the next game.

“It is going to be a difficult game for us but if we take something from that then we are at home the week after to Alloa - a game we will be looking to go and win.”

St Mirren go into the Easter Road clash having had the weekend off last week due to poor weather seeing their match with Raith Rovers called off.

It has meant the focus on getting a positive result in the capital has been sharpened all week, and Agnew is hopeful to reproduce the performance shown in Leith last time out when a 1-1 draw was earned.

“This week has been good, we have obviously been preparing the Hibs game and just been working towards that,” he said.

“We managed to get a good result through there earlier in the season - we went and got a point last time we were there.

“We will be going to Easter Road again to hopefully get something similar and we will be looking to get something from the game.”
