Dumbarton boss Stevie Aitken has hailed his club’s recruitment after securing the loan signing of Sheffield United’s Kler Heh until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old winger from Myanmar came through the Blades youth system after initially being raised in a refugee camp before being resettled in the UK ten years ago.

Sons boss Aitken is excited to see him in action, and he has thanked chief scout Stuart Millar for his role in attracting the player to the club.

He said: “The managers all had a meeting with David Moyes in the summer and the one bit of advice he gave us was to make sure that our recruitment was right.

“So we brought Stuart in to look at the scouting and recruitment side of things and make sure we were recruiting the right kinds of players.

“January is a difficult window in terms of players being available that you might want to come in, so sometimes you have to look outside your immediate network.

“It’s difficult for us as a part-time club to attract the right players, but through Stuart's contacts Sheffield United intimated that they were quite willing to do some business with us.

“We feel Kler was the right player for Dumbarton and hopefully it will be a good bit of business.

“We’ve got a good squad of players but it’s important we maintain that and if that means going down to England then we’re quite happy to do that.

“It’s a feather in our cap that Sheffield United wanted to do business with us, and through that relationship we might be able to get more players up in the future.

“It’s a major coup for the club, and we have to thank Stuart.”

Heh may make his debut in tomorrow’s crunch encounter with Livingston, who are just three points behind Dumbarton, although the Sons have a game in hand.

“It’s an important game for both teams and it’s an important weekend with the bottom four clubs playing each other,” Aitken said.

“They’ve certainly strengthened by bringing in Sam Stanton and Charlie Telfer, so it will be difficult.

“We’re at home though, we’re in good form and we’ll be looking to win the game.

“It’s not a six-pointer yet, win, lose or draw there’s still a long way to go, but a win would be a massive boost to us.”
