HEARTS may be a forbidden word for Morgaro Gomis.

But Motherwell’s deadline day recruit was more than willing to insist he will put his soul into hauling the Steelmen up the table and proving the Tynecastle club were wrong to let him go.

The Senegal internationalist put pen to paper on a loan move to Lanarkshire until the end of the season yesterday as Mark McGhee aims to add some experience and drive to his Well midfield.

Gomis was part of the Jambos side that romped to the Ladbrokes Championship title last season, forming a formidable partnership with ex-Dundee United team-mate Prince Buaben.

This season has been a different story for the 30-year-old, who has yet to play a game this calendar year despite racking up 21 appearances since the summer.

Gomis claims he is unaware why that is the case. However, now he has swapped maroon for claret and amber, he is keen to make his presence felt.

“I can’t say anything about Hearts,” he said. “I’m a Motherwell player. I don’t want to speak about hearts anymore.

“Yeah I was happy last season when we won the league but things changed this season. I don’t know why, for some reason. But that’s football. You get on with things.

“You need to ask them what changed. I’m fit and I just want to play. I wasn’t getting a game for a few months.

“Motherwell wanted me so I thought why not. If I can come and play and help the club it’ll be good.”

As well as the attraction of first-team football – which he could experience tonight as McGhee puts him straight in to the squad to face Partick Thistle at Firhill – Gomis says Motherwell’s style of football was also a draw to bring him to Lanarkshire.

He admits that his long-term future is unclear, but is encouraged by what the next few months hold for him and the side he wants to pull clear of trouble.

“I want to help the club and myself to get back on track to win games,” said Gomis. “They work really hard for each other. They have two good fast wingers.

“They’ve got a good team so maybe me here hopefully I can help and we can help each other get into the top six. It won’t be easy.”

Meanwhile Mark McGhee sat down yesterday with James McFadden to discuss the former Scotland internationalist’s options.

The ex-Everton man’s short term deal at Fir Park is now up with many anticipating him to follow his American dream to Philadelphia.

It appears that vision may not become a reality, and McGhee said: “When I spoke to him last week the Philadelphia thing seemed to have evaporated and we’re not quite sure where that leaves him but, certainly in the terms he’s been here, Faddy’s welcome to stay.

“He’s been a good addition to the squad, a good addition to training, he’s a great character around the place and a great example to the boys.

“So he can stay for longer if he wants.”
