Albion Rovers are enduring their first sticky spell since being promoted to League One last summer, but manager Darren Young insists that panic isn’t setting in.

A loss to Ayr United was followed up by a heavy defeat last Saturday at Peterhead, and Tuesday night’s defeat to Stranraer rounded off a miserable spell for the Cliftonhill men.

Their excellent start to life in the division though has ensured they are still right in the mix for the play-off positions, and Young is backing his players to keep their heads.

“The lads have reacted well to it,” he said.

“We’ve just been losing silly goals and we’ve had a few bad decisions against us as well.

“In the last two games we’ve had two clearly onside goals disallowed and two stonewall penalties turned down, and things like that change games.

“It’s so frustrating. We’ve been creating plenty of chances as well but haven’t been making the most of them, so hopefully we can put things right soon.

“We’ve had a habit in the last few games of losing goals again immediately after conceding, but we’ve spoken about that in the dressing room and we all know what the problem is.

“It’s the same squad that had us third in the table, and if we win our game in hand we’ll be back in the play-off spots, so all is not lost.”

If they are to get their season back on track, Young says that one or two reinforcements to his squad would be helpful, particularly after the departure of key men Josh Mullin and John Gemmill.

To that end, he hopes that Spas Giorgev, who has arrived from Livingston as part of the deal that saw Mullin going the other way, won’t be the last arrival.

He added: “We’re still trying to add one or two players to try and help the squad. We’re always looking to improve the team and we’re in a fortunate enough position that there’s some money there if we can find the right players.

“We didn’t really have a choice with young Josh Mullin. He had the chance to go full-time and we would never stand in anyone’s way.

“Spas is an attacking option though and will bring a different dimension to our play, so I’m excited to see what he can bring to the team.”
