DAVID CLARKSON is hoping to get some vital game time between now and the end of the season – to remind people he is still there.

The Motherwell man returned to his former club last summer but went out on loan to St Mirren back in January to get much needed game time.

Now 30, Clarkson is desperate to prove that he still has something to offer whether it is at Fir Park, the Paisley 2021 Stadium or somewhere else.

And with the former Scotland internationalist out of contract in the summer, he is keen to make an impression in Saints’ final two games.

“Everyone wants to play. I tried to get myself in but I’ve not been given the opportunity really to show what I can do,” he said.

“There comes a time when you have to go and get game time. I didn’t want to go on loan, I wanted to try and burst into the team.

“But I wasn’t coming on as much or getting the chance to prove myself, so I then had to go and try and get game time.

“If you’re not playing you get forgotten about quickly. So it was important for me and my career to go and get game time and let people know I’m still available.”

Speaking about his contract situation with Motherwell, Clarkson added: “I’ve not spoken to anyone. Now Motherwell are in the top six but every year clubs are waiting to see where they are and find out what budgets are etc.

“Again, it could be one of those things that happen overnight or it could take weeks to be decided wherever I end up.

“It’s up to me in these last couple of games to get in and show what I can do wherever I may be.”
