Queen’s Park are relishing the exciting end to the League Two promotion play-off places, according to their manager Gus MacPherson.

The Spiders kept themselves right in the hunt with a draw at fifth-placed Elgin last time out, a result that leaves them in third-place on goal difference with just two games to go.

With matches against second-placed Clyde and fourth-placed Annan to come, MacPherson knows that there is still everything to play for as the season reaches a thrilling conclusion.

“It’s exciting for everybody that’s been watching it all season, you can see how evenly-matched a lot of teams are and how competitive it is,” he said.

“You just don’t know what you’re going to get from week to week. Results are unpredictable and it’s been like that all season.

“East Fife have won the league because since January they’ve been the most consistent team. The other teams have had that inconsistency.

“If we couldn’t win the league then we’ve been stressing to the players how vital it is to make the play-offs.

“You can’t take anything for granted though. We got our point up at Elgin, and then the last thing I was expecting was Annan to lose at home to East Stirling.

“All you can do is take care of your own performances and your own business.

“East Stirling have beaten every single team near the top of the league, so you just can’t tell, that’s the team that are bottom of the table.

“All you can hope for is to get your strongest team possible on the pitch on a Saturday, and get them working as hard as they possibly can.

“If you get that then you can’t complain too much and hopefully you get the little bit of luck on the day.

“It’s great for everyone watching it though and it’s an exciting end to the season.”

MacPherson has urged his players not to be as slow out of the blocks this weekend against Clyde as they were at Elgin last weekend.

He was pleased with their powers of recovery though after falling behind early on.

“We didn’t start the game particularly well up at Elgin, and they missed a couple of chances before they scored,” he said.

“That seemed to wake us up a wee bit, and we played some really good stuff for the remainder of the first half.

“We could and should probably have went in ahead at half-time, but in the second half both teams seemed to cancel each other out and it was a little bit nervy.

“Over the 90 minutes a draw was probably a fair result.

“You’ve only got to look at Elgin’s home record this season to know that if you’re coming back down the road with anything, you’ve done well, so we were delighted with it.”

Despite the dip in form that Clyde are currently going through, MacPherson is expecting nothing but a stern challenge from Barry Ferguson’s side at Hampden on Saturday.

He said: “The reports that we had from the game were that Clyde played very well against a really good East Fife team. They lost the week before down at Berwick, but they’ve proved how good they are over the last few months.

“The games between ourselves and Clyde have been very tight affairs so far this season, very competitive, and I don’t think it will be too different come Saturday."
