Clyde manager Barry Ferguson launched an astonishing attack on his players after they lost 2-1 to fellow promotion chasers Queen’s Park at Hampden.

Chris Duggan had given the Spiders the lead from the penalty spot midway through the first half after Paul Woods’ feet were too quick for Scott McMann and Vinnie Berry slipped a shot home to make it 2-0 early in the second half.

John Gemmell headed a goal back on the hour mark and despite his side striking wood through late efforts from Mark McLaughlin and Scott Linton Ferguson was fuming.

The Bully Wee boss said: “It was not good enough and it makes my decisions easier now about players who are going to be staying or not going to be staying. I have a number of players signed up on pre-contracts and I will need to double that number.”

“We were playing for a play-off place and there was no fight.”

Ferguson added: “Five weeks ago we had a chance of winning the league and we blew it. Some of them cannot handle pressure and therefore they cannot play for me. There were demands put on the squad when we were one point behind East Fife and look at things now.”

“We have a chance next weekend but whether those boys want to go on and do it is another thing. I can count on one hand the players I can depend on. The others will not be here next season.”

Hampden head coach Gus MacPherson said: “We did ride our luck at times but the players deserved it as they worked really hard. It is a fantastic three points but we face a very tough game at Annan next weekend when issues will be decided.”
