Kilmarnock manager Lee Clark believes his side are still capable of winning their remaining games, despite continually shooting themselves in the foot.

Killie's 3-1 defeat to Inverness left them seven points adrift of Hamilton in 10th, with a crunch encounter between the two sides at New Douglas Park next week.

Clark needs his side to cut out the errors if they are to stand any chance of escaping trouble, with a spot in the relegation play-off position looking increasingly likely.

The guilty party on Sunday was Conrad Balatoni, who gifted Inverness a route back into the game with a horrible back-pass that was intercepted by Ross Draper.

He was subsequently fouled by Killie goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald, who saw red and will miss next week's game against the Accies.

Balatoni was singled out for criticism after the game by Clark, but, despite this, there is still faith from the manager that his side can drag themselves out of trouble.

"We had made the better chances in the second half, but then we do that, go down to 10 men and lose the game," he said.

"We have to dust ourselves down, I have confidence in young Conor Brennan because it wasn't his fault for any of the goals.

"We had been looking at picking up all 15 points (remaining this season), but there's 12 left now and we have to get them. But to do that we have to cut out the errors."

Greg Tansey scored the spot-kick that resulted from Balatoni's error to cancel out Kallum Higginbotham's opener and further goals from Draper and Danny Williams ensured Inverness took the three points.

Caley Thistle boss John Hughes admitted the red card was critical, but also praised his side for taking control of the game.

"I don't know if it would have worked without the penalty and the sending-off, but there is no doubt the sending-off certainly swung it in our favour," he said.

"Kilmarnock were hit by a triple whammy with the penalty, the sending-off and the goal. All we had to do then was be patient and switch the play as we knew the chances would come.

"It was a big three points for us, I did detect some trepidation in their game, but sometimes you have to dig out results."
