Barry Ferguson will be back in the dugout for Clyde for today’s play-off second leg against Elgin City after missing Tuesday night’s first-leg at Broadwood.

Ferguson was in Switzerland concluding his UEFA Pro Licence – with the mandatory dates set by the governing body - as his side earned a 3-1 lead to take north to Borough Briggs this afternoon.

Assistant manager Bob Malcolm took charge of the side, but they showed no ill-effects due to the absence of their manager, as goals from John Gemmell, Scott Linton and Mark McLaughlin gave the Bully Wee a commanding advantage in the tie.

While at UEFA's headquarters, Ferguson conducted his usual post-match analysis after receiving footage of the match, and arrived home in time to take training on Thursday night ahead of the second-leg.

The former Rangers captain was delighted with the professionalism of his men as they carried out the instructions he left for them to the letter.

"All of the boys knew their jobs and I was pleased with the performance, especially in the first half,” he said. “I was on the phone to our dugout through one of our kit men during the match, so I'm never far away!”

Ferguson has warned his players to guard against complacency against a dangerous Elgin side who showed enough on Tuesday evening to suggest they are not out of the tie yet.

He says though that it is not in his side’s nature to sit back and defend their lead, and they will be going all out to get another win.

"The tie is far from over though and the job is only half done,” he said.

"We are going up there to be positive and look to win the game again - it's not in our mentality to sit back and try to defend what we have."

Ferguson has no new injury worries ahead of the match. The winner of the tie will be rewarded with playoff final date against either Queen’s Park or Cowdenbeath for a place in League One next season.
