Gus MacPherson has warned his players that Queen’s Park’s unbeaten record against Clyde this season will count for little when they take each other on over two legs for promotion.

The Spiders head to Broadwood tonight in fine fettle, having overcome Cowdenbeath to set up the meeting with their rivals.

MacPherson is wary of the danger posed by the Bully Wee though, and he says his players will have to be at their best if they are to prevail and earn a place in League One for next season.

“I think both teams are respectful of each other because the games have been so tight,” MacPherson said.

“We’ve got the edge on it at the moment, but there is nothing between the teams. It probably epitomises how tight League Two has been.

“We believe we have players who are capable of causing them problems, but likewise Barry Ferguson and Bob Malcolm will be saying exactly the same about their players.

“We saw in their game against Elgin how they can cause problems and the way that Barry is trying to play, so we’ve got to be ready to combat that.

“They recruited well in January, bringing in John Gemmell and Jordan Kirkpatrick a little bit later on.

“They’ve certainly recruited experienced guys to give them that final push, so there is real quality within the Clyde ranks.

“They had very impressive results against Elgin, both home and away, and if you can do that then you must be doing something right.”

With striker Chris Duggan’s season over after limping out of Saturday’s match at Central Park with a hamstring injury, MacPherson has challenged one of his other forwards to grasp their chance.

He said: “It’s a big blow, Chris has played really well in the past two or three months, getting more opportunities to score goals and he has scored goals, so he’ll be a miss.

“There’s Jon Carter, Ryan Hines and Billy Mortimer though who have all been desperate to play, and one of them will get a chance on Tuesday night to go and put their mark on it.”
