Ziggy Gordon will leave Hamilton at the end of the season with the gratitude and good wishes of Martin Canning.

The 23-year-old defender indicated to the player/manager on Monday, after Accies had secured their Ladbrokes Premiership status with a 1-0 win over Dundee at the weekend, that he will be seeking pastures new.

Canning is aware that the New Douglas Park club have built a reputation for producing talented young players such as James McCarthy and James McArthur and believes Gordon, who also came through the youth system, is more than entitled to move on to further his career.

Ahead of the visit of Inverness tonight, the Hamilton defender said: "Ziggy came to see me yesterday morning and said he will be probably moving on at the end of the season.

"Ziggy has been here since he was a young kid and been great for us, he has been fantastic.

"I think he has a couple of options that he wants to go and explore.

"He is well within his rights to do so and I will be the first to shake his hand and thank him for everything he has done for the club.

"He is the hungriest wee guy you will get, determined to do well for himself. He puts everything into every game and training session.

"Whether it is a training session or a game, he would tackle his granny, he is that type of player.

"So I have nothing but positives to say about him. People move on, it is part of football, and we will wish him all the best if that is the case."

Accies' last home game saw them lose 4-0 to second-bottom Kilmarnock after which the stadium announcer claimed none of the home players deserved the usual man of the match accolade.

Canning remains unimpressed with the jibe and hopes there are more than a few candidates against Inverness.

"I didn't hear it but I heard about it," he said. "But that's been dealt with upstairs.

"You want the whole club pulling together. You don't want anybody, whether it is the fans, the players, a member of staff or someone who works at the club to have a pop at anybody.

"There will be good days and bad days. I don't remember after good days, when we have played well, him saying something positive so there is no need to be saying something negative.

"We all knew it wasn't good enough on that day but we worked hard and put it right on Saturday.

"Like I say, the most important thing is that everyone works together, you have to do that to punch above your weight and it was disappointing from that respect.

"It has been good since the weekend. We got the result and we stay in the league which was the target at the start of the season. Now we want to finish the season strongly.

"If we could finish our last game here with a win it would be great."
