MARK McGHEE insists it is more 'realistic' for Motherwell to beat Rangers than it is Celtic.

Just over a week ago the Fir Park boss watched his side demolished 5-0 by a free-flowing Hoops side at Parkhead, but reckons his Steelmen have more of a chance upsetting the odds at Ibrox tomorrow.

McGhee has watched old pal Brendan Rodgers splash the cash to fill his team with players of the calibre of Moussa Dembele, Kolo Toure and Scott Sinclair.

Well will now return to Ibrox this weekend to face a different Rangers side to the one they comprehensively defeated in the 2015 Premiership play-off final, but their manager still reckons that coming away with a result is not beyond them.Glasgow Times: 18/06/16 . FIR PARK - MOTHERWELL . Motherwell manager Mark McGhee talks to the press.

“Look at the quality of players that they are buying like Scott Sinclair. We watched him [for Celtic against Hapoel Be'er Sheva] and you see his speed and pace, that’s what you pay the money for," said McGhee.

“Rangers are having to be in a sense more creative. They are not able to buy as finished a product as Sinclair is. I think Brendan saw what he could bring to the team and how the team would benefit.

“I think Mark is still buying players that he might be able to make into a player, along with the likes of Joey Barton who are established. He’s still buying players that he could turn into a better player like Sinclair. He’s not at the level of finances yet where they can go and buy a Sinclair.

“I think in that respect we are closer to them. However, all I’ll remind people of is Leicester City. We won’t make excuses, it’s just the way it is that we can’t always compete with Celtic but next time we play them we’ll try and beat them.

“Every time we play Rangers we’ll try and do the same, it just seems a bit more realistic."

Regardless of the gulf in resources or spending power, McGhee will know his team will have to be miles ahead of the team that tripped up at home to St Johnstone last weekend.

Keeping up the running theme, the Motherwell manager revealed that his players were put through a gruelling fitness boot camp of 10 200metre sprints in training this week after they failed to cover enough ground in that 2-1 defeat.

“There was 1.5k missing from the average performance on Saturday. That’s catastrophic in terms of us trying to win a game," said McGhee. "We’ve got to work harder than that. We are not good enough to not work as hard as we possibly can.

“I can print off these sheets and show them or I can show them in practical terms what that looks like. So I took them out and gave them 10 200m runs. There were a few lying on the ground at the end of them, which I enjoyed.

“You can still lose a game on a Saturday even when you work hard but at the end of the day you can say you’ve done everything you can. But on Saturday we didn’t do everything we can and that’s the thing that upset me."
