RICHARD FOSTER has joined Saint Johnstone after Ross County agreed to terminate his contract a year early.

The 31-year-old penned a two-year deal with the Staggies last summer and went on to win the League Cup in his debut campaign in Dingwall.

However, the club announced on Friday that the former Rangers full-back's contract has been mutually torn up a year early in order to free up a move to Premiership rivals St Johnstone. Glasgow Times: Richard Foster

Foster, who has already been registered and is available to feature against Celtic tomorrow, becomes Saints' fifth signing of the summer.

Paul Paton, Blair Alston, Michael Coulsonand Keith Watson have also joined Tommy Wright's squad.

"Ross County Football Club would like to announce that Richard Foster's contract has been terminated by mutual agreement," read a club statement.

Staggies manager Jim McIntyre recognised Foster's efforts in helping the club to a successful campaign in 2015/16, but reassured fans that the defence has been well strengthened to cover for his absence.

"Richard made a great contribution to the club last season as we won the League Cup and finished in the top six," he told Ross County's official website.

"However, we strengthened the squad in the full-back area over the summer and are very happy with our options so we wish Richard well in the next chapter of his career at St Johnstone Football Club."
