JIM GOODWIN has been appointed as the new manager of League One side Alloa Athletic.

The former St Mirren and Hamilton midfielder has made 12 appearances for the club this season and steps into the management role to succeed Jack Ross.

St Mirren announced the appointment of Ross last week after he had guided Alloa to third place in the League One table.

Goodwin began his playing career at Celtic and joined Alloa in the summer after a five-year spell in Paisley.

The Wasps were beaten at home by Airdrieonians before the international break and face a trip to Brechin on Saturday for Goodwin's first game in charge.
