JIM DUFFY is confident Lawrence Shankland will prove to be an ideal fit for his Morton attack after completing a loan deal for the striker.

Shankland scored four goals in 24 appearances for St Mirren this term but quit the Buddies and returned to Aberdeen earlier this week.

The 21-year-old is now on the move again and he will spend the second half of the campaign at Cappielow as Morton push for a play-off spot.

Boss Duffy said: “He knows the Championship; he’s been at St Mirren. I don’t think it was as prolific a move as he would have hoped but I don’t think that can detract from the fact he’s a talented goalscorer and he’ll give us something different at the top end of the pitch.

“At 21 years of age, he’s still got plenty to offer. He’s a strong boy in, and in and around the penalty box he’s a real threat. He’s not the one who’ll run into the channels or stretch the defences, he more occupies the defenders.

“That’s something I think that we’ve been looking for for quite a while. Even when we had the likes of Jai [Quitongo] available, we would have still liked somebody like that to give us a different type of option.

“So Lawrence will come in and I’m sure he’ll fit in well with how we play and if we can get the service to him, I’m really confident he can be a success and score some important goals for us.”
