Rory Loy says he is determined to show the St Mirren support what he can offer after making his return to the club for a second loan spell yesterday.

The Dundee striker has joined Jack Ross’s outfit until the end of the season, having previously spent the second half of the 2008/09 campaign with the club while a youngster at Rangers.

He feels that the Buddies didn’t see the best of him back then as his first-team opportunities were limited, but he believes his time in Paisley will be much more productive this time around.

He told the club website: “Having had been here before and not being given an opportunity I was keen to come back and show the club and supporters why they signed me back then and why I can be a good acquisition now.

"I was very young back then. I've played in this division for two years and did very well in it so I'm not sure it's a case of having anything to prove. But I'm certainly looking to come here and do well."

There may be those who will question Loy’s decision to swap the relative comfort of the eighth-placed side in the Premiership for a team fighting for their lives at the foot of the Championship.

And while he has found starting opportunities hard to come by of late at Dundee, there was interest from a host of other clubs higher up the standings.

But Loy admits that the chance to work with Saints manager Ross as well as the memories of his previous spell at the club, made the opportunity to return too hard to resist.

“I'm sure there will be plenty of opinions on my decision," he said. "But at the same time I still feel with the squad here we can turn it around and I want to be a part of that. I want to score goals and I want to help keep the club up.

"I know the training ground, I know the stadium, I know the pitch and I know there's a good infrastructure.

“I was looking forward to being a part of that and I've heard only good things about Jack Ross as a manager and as a coach so I want to experience that first hand."

After a damaging 3-0 defeat to Queen of the South last weekend, both in terms of St Mirren’s perilous situation in the league as well as to their confidence, Loy is hoping to help them bounce back quickly.

If he can get the goal that gives them a crucial victory in Saturday’s massive clash with Dunfermline, he knows he can make himself an instant hero with the Saints support.

“It was a good training session this morning so I’m raring to go,” he said.

"I've been there many times and it can be quite a hostile atmosphere. I actually went to watch them a couple of weeks ago and they were very good so we'll need to be on our game."

His new manager meanwhile was only too happy to add another reinforcement to his squad after the capture of Aberdeen’s Craig Storie on loan earlier in the week.

"I'm delighted to have someone of Rory's calibre on board”, said Ross. “He's got a good pedigree at this level and we're happy to have him in."
