FORMER Hearts and Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies has returned to football to take over as Sporting Director at Edinburgh City.

The experienced 66-year-old has been out of the game since resigning as Dunfermline boss in December 2014 and will help the League Two club with their player recruitment as well as acting as a sounding board for the management team.

Jefferies won the Scottish Cup with the Jambos in 1998 and also led the likes of Berwick Rangers, Falkirk and Bradford City during a 31-year managerial career.

"During my chats recently with the club I've been impressed with their ambition and plans going forward and I look forward to helping them in areas which they feel they need support," he said.

"I hope my years of experience can help them and I look forward to the challenge."

City boss Gary Jardine is looking forward to working alongside Jefferies and believes his experience in the Scottish game could prove to be vital.

He said: "It's another fantastic step in the right direction for the Club.  If we have lacked anything as a Club since making the step up it would be experience.

"Jim coming in gives us that in abundance having been involved at every level of the game in Scotland and that can only improve Edinburgh City and on a personal level myself and the coaching staff."
