Partick Thistle assistant manager Scott Paterson is delighted that the club have persuaded former Dundee United midfielder Blair Spittal to sign on at Firhill.

The Jags secured the 21-year-old on a two-year deal yesterday despite interest from other Premiership clubs.

In three years at Tannadice, Spittal played over 100 games for the Tangerines, scoring 14 goals.

And Paterson believes that the ex-Queen’s Park youngster will slip seamlessly into life as a Partick thistle player.

“The good thing about Blair is that he fits straight into how we want to play,” Paterson said. “He’s a player we’ve always been impressed with. He has great energy and his attitude is spot on.

“I’m delighted that we’ve got him on board, and we’re really looking forward to working with him.

“He’s still young, but he’s got games behind him and really good experience for someone so young.

“He’s just a good player as well. He’s technically very good and he has two good feet, so he’s a player that doesn’t need too much coaching, because he fits into our style of play very well.”

Another attribute that Paterson admires about the player is his versatility, with his ability to play in a variety of positions a major factor in the decision to pursue him.

“You need options and there are numerous ways in which we can use Blair,” he said.

“He’s comfortable in numerous positions as well, which is something we always try to look for.

“He can play anywhere in behind the striker, he’s comfortable on either flank, and he could probably play full-back at a push too.

“So, he’s a very good option for us and it’s a real coup for the club that we managed to get him.”

Meanwhile, young Cowdenbeath 'keeper Jamie Sneddon has also joined Thistle.

The 19-year-old had trials with Hibs earlier this year, and has been brought on board primarily to play in the under-20s, although he will also provide back-up for the first-team.
