MOTHERWELL have announced the signing of goalkeeper Russell Griffiths on a one-year deal following a successful loan spell.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season at Fir Park, making four Premiership appearances, and today made the move permanent following his release by Everton.

There has been much change in the Steelmen's goalkeeping department this summer, with Griffiths and Trevor Carson both joining the club and Craig Samson leaving for St Mirren.

"I’m raring to go and I’m looking forward to a good pre-season to get me ready for the start of the season," Griffiths told MFC TV.

“I’m glad that I’ve got in today and finalised everything so I’m really looking forward to kicking on and trying to seal the number one spot this season.”

Griffiths becomes Motherwell's sixth summer signing, following the captures off Carson, Gael Bigirimana, Alex Fisher, Craig Tanner and Andy Rose, and manager Stephen Robinson was pleased to tie down the England Under-20 international.

“Russell showed a tremendous attitude towards the tail end of last season and put in some terrific performances for us in an important run of games," said Robinson.

“We’re delighted to have secured Russell’s signature and to have that competition for the number one jersey is crucial.”
