Sometimes you need a figurehead in a team to personify the spirit of what that team should be all about, and I think that Rangers have lacked the figure in the last couple of years.

The one who has come closest is Kenny Miller, who I think deserves a lot of credit for the way that he has shouldered the burden at a time when perhaps even he thought he was going to be a bit-part player.

But he can’t go on doing that forever, and Rangers needed somebody to take the game by the scruff of the neck, and be that larger than life figure on the pitch.

In Graham Dorrans, they have someone who wants to be there, and you get the impression looking at Dorrans during his competitive Rangers debut, it clearly means a lot to him personally. So, there’s that motivation on his part.

He’s a Scotland international, and someone who has served his apprenticeship in England with West Brom and Norwich, and Rangers are reaping the benefits of that.

To have hit the ground running the way he did, scoring the two goals and being that all-encompassing figure, it says a lot. There are certainly signs of improvement, and I think Dorrans is a big part of that.
