TREVOR CARSON admits his call to make the switch to Motherwell was cemented during his Premiership debut.

Playing in front of 10,000 at Fir Park and a global TV audience, the former Hartlepool man was blown away by the atmosphere and spectacle of the Steelmen's 2-1 defeat to Rangers on Sunday.

Carson had given up a lucrative offer of a new deal at Victoria Park to take a leap of faith by coming to Lanarkshire, and the Northern Irishman relived his moment of contentment ahead of tonight's match at Ross County in the Betfred Cup.

He said: "It is the biggest game I have played in and I didn't come away thinking it was all too much for me.

"There were no nerves as I was straight in at the deep end and it was sink or swim but I really enjoyed it.

"I came away from the Rangers game thinking this is a bit of me and I want to taste more of it.

"The atmosphere was unbelievable.

"I was at a career crossroads as I hadn't played at all last season because of a shoulder injury.

"Hartlepool offered me a great three year contract to stay and my daughter is down there

"It would have been the easier decision to stay at Hartlepool on good money and be 10 minutes from my daughter.

"Everyone I asked for career advice told me moving to Motherwell was a no-brainer.

"Playing in that game on Sunday in that atmosphere was brilliant.

"I remember standing there at Fir Park on Sunday and asking myself: 'What were you thinking about'?"

The 29-year-old knows the atmosphere in Dingwall will be far different to that of Sunday, but he is eager for Motherwell to keep the same desire and intensity.

"Dingwall will be a new experience for me," he said.

"Ross County have done very well in the last two years and it is going to be a challenge.

"It is great playing in front of big crowds but there will be times when there will only be two or three thousand at games and we have to go to Dingwall and show the same energy, ambitions and commitment."
