The Gogic family have already been involved in giving Rangers one almighty scare, but Hamilton’s Alex is hoping to go one better than his dad Sinisa by coming out on top against the Ibrox side this evening.

Gogic senior was part of the Anorthosis Famagusta side who lost out by a single goal to Rangers over two legs in the Champions League qualifiers back in 1995.

And Gogic junior is still hoping to be able to rib his old man about surpassing his hard luck story against Rangers, as he looks to emerge from his father’s shadow with the Accies.

“He won’t be able to come over – unless he’s planning to surprise me,” Gogic said. “As far as I know, he’ll just be watching on television.

“When I first moved to Scotland, he told me about his experience playing against Rangers. We talk about football but hardly ever about the past.

“He came close to beating Rangers and if I can succeed on Friday then I’ll tease him and tell him I did what he couldn’t.

“I am looking forward to it. It’s a big game and it won’t be easy but we believe we can get a positive result, especially after our last two games [against Hearts and St Johnstone], which we lost when we should have won both.

“They are under pressure after last weekend and that always counts but this is about what we do.

“If we play our game correctly and do what the gaffer asks us to do then we can get the result we want.”

The big defender knows that he and his teammates will have their hands full as they try to keep tabs on red-hot Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos tonight.

But he is hoping that he can make his own impact at the other end and get a famous winner against such a big club, having scored a consolation goal against Celtic earlier in the season.

“We need to look out for the whole team but [Morelos] probably is their star,” he said. “At the end of the day, though, it’s about one v one and everyone trying to win their individual battles.

“I scored against Celtic but the game was over by then. It would be nice to get a goal against Rangers which meant something, particularly if it was the winner.”
