Carlos Pena has never been known as a frequent goalscorer, even back in Mexico, so I’m not sure if he can keep this recent purple patch going, as welcome as it has been.

For me, for a number 10 – because that’s what he is – you’ve got to be looking for more.

Look at Philippe Coutinho at Liverpool for example. Now, I’m not saying he’s anywhere near that sort of level, that would be ridiculous, but look at the work he does on the ball.

He’s getting on it whenever he can and attacking players, and he makes a huge difference in every game. Pena hasn’t shown me anything like that yet.

Yes, he’s popped up in the last couple of games with some good goals, but you are looking for more from a player in that position.

I’ve heard all the arguments about him still having to bed in and all the rest of it, but he’s been there the same amount of time as the rest of the lads that have come in.

I’m looking for more from him. As long as he is scoring goals he will be in the team, that’s what wins you games, but you have to ask the question of what he does if he isn’t scoring?

The Rangers fans will be pleased that he has started to score and contribute to the team that way, but I worry that it won't be sustainable, and the jury is still hugely out on him.

For £2.5million, you could have got Louis Moult, Jamie Walker and Kenny McLean, so that’s the way I look at it when judging his contribution.

The manager saying he is still only at 70% or whatever it may be, and I just don’t get that. What has he been doing if he has been in training and playing games for that length of time and he is still struggling?

At last, his fitness seems to be getting there though, and it’s the footballing ability that we’re looking for now. Hopefully there is a lot more to come from him in that department than we’ve seen so far.
